Chocolate Orange cookies

I just baked these today and my son declared them "just as good as those chocolate orange things that you whack on the table". Mmmm...I tend to agree. They are a really nice change from the traditional chocolate chip!

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp grated orange peel
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup softened butter
2 large eggs
1 tsp pure orange extract
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Cream together the butter and sugars until fluffy. Add the orange peel, extract, and eggs and blend well. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Scrape down the side of the bowl with the egg/butter mixture, and add the dry ingredients. Blend until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Drop by tablespoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for about 15-18 minutes at 300 F.

Makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
